Philosophy of Counseling
My role as your counselor is to assist you in finding meaning and hope even in the worst of circumstances. I believe that there is nothing you have done or experienced that cannot be redeemed. You are valuable, loved, and have been created for a purpose. You should know that my faith in the restoring work of Jesus Christ strongly informs my perspective of you and the counseling process. However, I will respect your beliefs and look forward to learning your story. I will blend techniques of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Narrative Therapy, and an Existential approach to meet your unique needs. After surviving a Holocaust concentration camp, Austrian psychiatrist Victor Frankl wrote, "everything can be taken from a man but one thing: the last of the human freedoms - to choose one's attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one's own way." Situations may have shaped you, but they do not define who you are. No person or experience can take away your choice to grow and rise up from your struggles wiser, stronger, and better equipped to live out the purpose for which you have been created.
